Importing history

Moving to Eureka doesn't mean starting from zero. You can import history from Google Analytics 4, Universal Analytics, Matomo, Piano / AT Internet and Adobe Analytics.

What can be imported

SourceWhatLevel
GA4 BigQuery exportEvery event since the export was enabledHit level
GA4 Data APIDaily reportsAggregates
GA360 BigQuery export (Universal Analytics 360)Every hitHit level
Universal Analytics archivesReports you saved before July 2024 (JSON or CSV)Aggregates
Matomo databaseEvery visit and actionHit level
Matomo Reporting APIDaily reportsAggregates
Piano raw exports (Data Flow / Export)Every eventHit level
Piano Data Query APIDaily reportsAggregates
Adobe Analytics Data FeedsEvery hitHit level

Hit level is always better: imported events behave like live data, so funnels, paths, sessions and every report work on history. Aggregates can only fill the reports whose dimensions and metrics existed in the source tool.

Universal Analytics

Google shut down Universal Analytics data and its API on 1 July 2024. Only the GA360 BigQuery export (if you had one) and reports you saved yourself remain.

Full history from the GA4 BigQuery export

GA4's data retention setting (2 or 14 months) limits its explorations, not the BigQuery export: the daily tables keep every event since the export was linked. See the GA4 migration worked example.

How it works

  1. Admin → Imports → New import: choose the source, the date range and the credentials (for example a Google service account with read access, or a Matomo database replica).
  2. Eureka shows a coverage report: which fields map to Eureka, which are kept as custom properties, which are dropped. Review it.
  3. The import runs day by day. You can follow its progress; a failed day is reported and can be re-run. Re-running an import never creates duplicates.

Imports require the admin role. GA4 imports are included from the Growth plan; every source from the Pro plan.

In your reports

  • Before your Eureka go-live date, reports show the imported data with a badge such as "Imported from GA4".
  • Agents are not split in history. No previous tool could tell agents from humans, so imported data counts as human. Bots that the source tool filtered out stay excluded.
  • Run both tools in parallel for 2 to 4 weeks before switching. Eureka compares the overlap period day by day and shows the difference as an annotation where the curves join, for example "GA counted 7% more sessions, which matches the AI agents Eureka classifies separately". History is never corrected silently.

Privacy

IP addresses are never imported. User IDs are hashed. Email, phone, token and password parameters are removed from URLs.

Agents & humans, every visit counts!
